Covering an old tattoo
The reasons for having a cover-up are many and varied.
It may be as simple as the tattoo that you want covered is no longer relevant to you. It could be that an old tattoo is showing some signs of age, or it could be as simple as your mate brought himself a tattoo gun and wanted to try it out on you … and you let him … No matter what the reason, it is important to understand a few things: The first and possibly the most important is to understand that having an old tattoo covered is always going to restrict what you can have done. Having said that, providing you understand and you are willing to be flexible in your choices, it doesn’t mean that you can’t have a tattoo that looks good. Fine detail and subtle shading will never work over an existing tattoo, but with planning it is possible to still have an excellent piece of body art. Japanese work lends itself to cover-ups as it has a multitude of colours, shapes and shades, and with an artistic approach the finished piece can look really good. If Japanese work is not for you – that is fine. There are a huge amount of possibilities. The important thing is to come into the studio so that we can see – in the flesh, exactly what needs covering, and then we can talk to you about what you would like in a design. We are artists – we are very happy to work with you and advise and design an appropriate piece to cover any existing work that you feel you no longer want to look at. |
